Boise Happenings For January 2020

Just because Christmas is over, doesn't mean there is nothing to do in Boise! Things are always going on here in Boise to keep you entertained and feeling great about the new year. 2020 is going to be a great year for Boise! 

Although we are entering our coldest month (January) we are still packed with things to do that are fun for couples, families or individuals. January is such a great time to enjoy the winter season when we are not as busy with the spring and summer rush for the river. Here is a list of the all the must do's you should plan on if you are in Boise in January.

Skiing, Tubing, and the Gladerunner Mountain Coaster | Bogus Basin

All month

For many winter sports enthusiasts, January and February are exciting months. Whether you're a ski bum or looking for something a little tamer, you can head up to Bogus Basin this month and ski, sled, tube, snowboard, or ride the Gladerunner Mountain Coaster. A short drive up the mountain makes for a perfect day of family fun, and bonus: Bogus Basin tends to stay above the clouds and sunny, even when the valley below is dealing with inversion. Learn more.

Tubing and Skiing at Eagle Island

All month

With snow machines, a beautiful location, and a “magic carpet” to get you up the slope, Eagle Island State Park has it all. Just a short drive from Boise, Eagle Island's skiing, tubing, and snowboarding hill are operational throughout the winter until late February, making it an ideal activity for families and groups. Learn more.

New Year's Resolution Run | Treasure Valley YMCA

January 1

The YMCA's annual New Year's Resolution 5k will help you start 2020 off on the right foot. The course begins at the Ram Restaurant near the greenbelt. Kick your New Year's Resolution off right away and set the tone for a healthy, active 2020! Learn more.

Great Polar Bear Plunge | Lucky Peak State Park

January 1

Feeling generous and a little crazy? Join hundreds of participants in this year's annual Great Polar Bear Plunge for an icy dip in the Lucky Peak Reservoir. It's all for a good cause, of course: proceeds benefit Idaho's Make-a-Wish foundation that grants the wishes of children with life-threatening illnesses. Learn more.

Boise State Basketball Home Games | Taco Bell Arena

January 1, 4, 8, 11, 15, 18, 25, 29

First Thursday | Downtown Boise

Guided Historic Depot Tour | Boise Depot

January 5 & 19

In 1925, the Boise Depot was one of the most recognizable icons in our area, and it remains so today. The Depot is an ideal spot to get a glimpse into the valley's past as well as a bird's eye view of Boise's present. Beginning at noon and 1:30 p.m., free guided tours are available first and third Sunday of each month. Learn more.

Paint With Penguins | Zoo Boise
